Sophia is a founding educator at AltSchool, who has held varied roles in teaching, admissions, and school operations. In 2015, she began the AltSchool Spanish Immersion Program with the goal of shaping bilingual global citizens who are socially conscious and environmentally aware. Sophia is currently the Upper Elementary Educators at AltSchool East Village. Sophia holds a BA in Psychology with a minor in Art History from Northwestern University. Before teaching at AltSchool, Sophia taught in Chicago Public Schools’ bilingual education program as a Chicago Teaching Fellows Corps Member.
Dina has worked with children in both educational and residential settings for over 11 years. Prior to joining AltSchool, she was a founding teacher at Blue School, a play-based and co-constructivist school in New York City. She founded the school's studio art program and was lead teacher of the two-year-old program. Dina lived in New York City for 11 years before relocating to the Bay Area to help Harker School in San Jose open their preschool campus in 2013. She has an MPS in Arts Therapy and Creative Development from Pratt Institute and a BA in English and Film Studies from UC Irvine.
Kate was a founding educator at AltSchool Fort Mason and has taught in its Upper Elementary classroom for the past two years. Kate attended the Harvard Graduate School of Education where she received a Master’s in Education in the Mind, Brain and Education program. Her research focused on educational neuroscience, Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and social-emotional development throughout childhood. She applied her learnings while working in a Reggio-Emilia Beginners classroom at Buckingham Browne and Nichols School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Before teaching, Kate received her Bachelor’s in Psychology from Amherst College.
In addition to many years as a classroom teacher, Annette was the Head of School at Berlin Bilingual School in Berlin, Germany. She also ran a small business for women’s development in Bangkok and founded an art program in Uzbekistan. Annette holds a Master of Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Bank Street College in New York. Her son is an AltSchool graduate.
