We’re accepting applications for the
2018-19 school year.

We're currently accepting applications for our Brooklyn Heights (pre-K through 4th grade) and Union Square (5th through 8th grade) schools, and admit students on a rolling basis.

If you are interested in applying for the 2019-20 school year, please submit your email and we will notify you once the application opens.

Our New York Lab Schools

New York City is an extension of our lab schools. Its history and diversity affords enriching opportunities such as exploring the Water Lab in Brooklyn Bridge Park and visiting the National Museum of Mathematics. Because lower school students at Brooklyn Heights matriculate to Union Square, we regularly host cross-campus events like maker days to build community across our New York City schools.

Admissions Process

1. Schedule a visit (optional)

We host Open Houses and additional events for prospective families to learn about our educational approach, meet educators, and tour the school. These events are optional. Register here.

If you would like to tour during the school day, please email admissions@altschool.com and include the campus you are interested in visiting.

2. Apply online

Our application is the first step for us to get to know your child as a learner. It also provides an opportunity to understand your expectations for your child’s school experience. We are accepting applications for the 2018-19 school year for pre-K through 8th grade, and admit students on a rolling basis.

There is a non-refundable $50 application fee. If this fee presents a hardship to your family, please contact the admissions office at admissions@altschool.com for a waiver after you’ve started an application.

3. Get to know each other

After reviewing applications, we invite families in for an interview. As part of this process, you will have the opportunity to meet with a member of our admissions team and take a tour during the school day. Your child will get to experience AltSchool in a classroom setting with our wonderful educators.

4. Receive an admissions decision*

Families will receive admissions decisions on a rolling basis. Enrollment agreements and deposits are due one week after admissions decisions are received. (We hope you say, “yes!”)

AltSchool is committed to diversity and inclusivity. Tuition assistance is one way we ensure AltSchool reflects the wider community. If you’re interested in applying for tuition assistance, you will receive instructions after you submit your AltSchool online application.

*Please note that we require an evaluation from your child’s current teacher for an application to be considered complete.

Children must be four years old by December 31, 2018 to enroll at our Brooklyn Heights campus for the 2018-19 school year. If your child is close to the cut-off date, we're happy to discuss a potential delayed enrollment.

Wait List: Qualified applicants whom AltSchool cannot immediately accept are placed on a wait list. Wait lists are active throughout the admissions period, and candidates are considered for acceptance if a space becomes available.

Mid-Year Transfers: AltSchool accepts mid-year transfers based on availability at each school location. Please indicate in your application if you are interested in a mid-year transfer.

Tuition and Tuition Assistance

AltSchool’s tuition covers the cost of the regular school day program, including healthy snacks, frequent field trips, and devices. Our after-school programming includes Extended Day and Enrichment offerings for additional fees. Learn more about our after-school offerings.
2018-19 annual tuition for lower school in Brooklyn Heights is $33,100, and middle school in Union Square is $38,800.

Optional tuition assistance application: AltSchool is committed to diversity and inclusivity. Tuition assistance is one way we ensure AltSchool reflects the wider community. If you’re interested in applying for tuition assistance, you will receive instructions after you submit your AltSchool online application.
