We’re accepting applications for the 2017-18 school year.

We're still accepting applications for limited spots for the 2017-18 school year for our Brooklyn Heights (pre-K through 4th grade), East Village (pre-K through 4th grade), and Union Square (5th through 8th grade) schools, and admit students on a rolling basis.

Applications for the 2018-19 school year will open in September. We encourage families interested in applying for the 2018-19 school year to register here for more information.
AltSchool runs lab schools serving pre-K through 8th-grade students, across New York City, San Francisco, and Palo Alto. These small, independent schools are centers of innovation and excellence, led by a specialized team of education management and pedagogy experts. It is in our lab schools where our educators and engineers work together with students and parents to create the technology that powers all of the schools in the AltSchool Network.

New York City is an extension of our lab schools. Its history and diversity affords enriching opportunities such as exploring the Water Lab in Brooklyn Bridge Park, learning about local history through the Lower East Side Tenement Museum, and visiting the National Museum of Mathematics. Because lower school students at Brooklyn Heights and East Village matriculate to Union Square, we regularly host cross-campus events like maker days to build community across our New York City schools.

Admissions Process

1. Schedule a visit

We will host Open Houses and additional events this fall for prospective families to learn about our educational approach, meet educators, and tour the school. We encourage you to sign up here to be notified when event registration opens.

2. Apply online

Our application is an opportunity for us to get to know your child and family. If you are interested in applying for limited spots for the 2017-18 school year, please start your application online.

3. Get to know each other

After reviewing applications, we invite families in for an interview. As part of this process, you will have the opportunity to meet with a member of our admissions team and take a tour during the school day. Your child will also be able to spend time with our educators in a classroom setting.

4. Receive an admissions decision*

We are accepting applications for the 2017-18 school year for limited pre-K through 8th grade spots, and admit students on a rolling basis. If you’d like to be considered for tuition assistance, you will receive instructions to complete your tuition assistance application after you submit the AltSchool online application.

*Please note that we require an evaluation from your child’s current teacher for an application to be considered complete.

Children must be four years old by December 31, 2017 to enroll in our Brooklyn Heights and East Village campuses for the 2017-18 school year.

Wait List: Qualified applicants whom AltSchool cannot immediately accept are placed on a wait list. Wait lists are active throughout the admissions period, and candidates are considered for acceptance if a space becomes available.

Mid-Year Transfers: AltSchool accepts mid-year transfers based on availability at each school location. Please indicate in your application if you are interested in a mid-year transfer.

Tuition and Tuition Assistance

AltSchool’s tuition covers the cost of the regular school day program, including field trips and devices. Our after-school programming includes Extended Day and enrichment offerings for additional fees. Learn more about our after-school offerings.
2017-18 annual tuition for lower school in Brooklyn Heights and the East Village is $32,000, and middle school in Union Square is $37,500.
