We’re accepting applications for the 2017-18 school year.

We’re still accepting applications for limited transitional kindergarten through 8th-grade spots for the 2017-18 school year, and admit students on a rolling basis.

Applications for the 2018-19 school year will open in September. We encourage families interested in applying for the 2018-19 school year to register here for more information.
AltSchool runs lab schools serving pre-K through 8th-grade students, across San Francisco, Palo Alto, and New York City. These small, independent schools are centers of innovation and excellence, led by a specialized team of education management and pedagogy experts. It is in our lab schools where our educators and engineers work together with students and parents to create the technology that powers all of the schools in the AltSchool Network.

The local neighborhoods are an extension of our lab schools. Being in San Francisco affords our students incredible experiential learning opportunities, whether that’s cultivating a community garden, taking a field trip to Angel Island to learn about immigration, or interviewing local business owners to understand the importance that individuals play in forming community.

Admissions Process

1. Schedule a visit

We will host Open Houses and additional events this fall for prospective families to learn about our educational approach, meet educators, and tour the school. We encourage you to sign up here to be notified when event registration opens.

2. Apply online

Our application is an opportunity for us to get to know your child and family. If you are interested in applying for limited spots for the 2017-18 school year, please start your application online.

3. Get to know each other

After reviewing applications, we invite families in for an interview. As part of this process, you will have the opportunity to meet with a member of our admissions team and take a tour during the school day. Your child will also be able to spend time with our educators in a classroom setting.

4. Receive an admissions decision*

We are accepting applications for the 2017-18 school year for limited transitional kindergarten through 8th grade spots, and admit students on a rolling basis. If you’d like to be considered for tuition assistance, you will receive instructions to complete your tuition assistance application after you submit the AltSchool online application.

*Please note that we require an evaluation from your child’s current teacher for an application to be considered complete.

Children must be five years old by December 1, 2017 to begin school in fall 2017. If your child is close to the cut-off date, we’re happy to discuss flexible options with your family.

Wait List: Qualified applicants whom AltSchool cannot immediately accept are placed on a wait list. Wait lists are active throughout the admissions period, and candidates are considered for acceptance if a space becomes available.

Mid-Year Transfers: AltSchool accepts mid-year transfers based on availability at each school location. Please indicate in your application if you are interested in a mid-year transfer.

Tuition and Tuition Assistance

AltSchool’s tuition covers the cost of the regular school day program, including field trips and devices. Our after-school programming includes Extended Day and enrichment offerings for additional fees. Learn more about our after-school offerings.
2017-18 annual tuition for lower school is $27,050 and middle school is $27,600.

Optional tuition assistance application: If you are interested in tuition assistance, you will receive instructions after you submit your AltSchool online application.
