We’re accepting applications for the 2018-19 school year.

We're currently accepting applications for limited spots for transitional kindergarten through 8th grade, and admit students on a rolling basis.

Our San Francisco Lab Schools

The local neighborhoods are an extension of our lab schools. Being in San Francisco affords our students incredible experiential learning opportunities, whether that’s cultivating a community garden, taking a field trip to Angel Island to learn about immigration, or interviewing local business owners to understand the importance that individuals play in forming community.

Admissions Process

1. Schedule a visit (optional)

We host Open Houses and additional events for prospective families to learn about our educational approach, meet educators, and tour the school. These events are optional. Register here.

If you would like to tour during the school day, please email admissions@altschool.com and include the campus you are interested in visiting.

2. Apply online

Our application is the first step for us to get to know your child as a learner. It also provides an opportunity to understand your expectations for your child’s school experience. We are accepting applications for limited spots for the 2018-19 school year for transitional kindergarten through 8th grade, and admit students on a rolling basis.

There is a non-refundable $50 application fee. If this fee presents a hardship to your family, please contact the admissions office at admissions@altschool.com for a waiver after you’ve started an application.

3. Get to know each other

After reviewing applications, we invite families in for an interview. As part of this process, you will have the opportunity to meet with a member of our admissions team and take a tour during the school day. Your child will get to experience AltSchool in a classroom setting with our wonderful educators.

4. Receive an admissions decision*

Families will receive admissions decisions on a rolling basis. Enrollment agreements and deposits are due one week after admissions decisions are received. (We hope you say, “yes!”)

AltSchool is committed to diversity and inclusivity. Tuition assistance is one way we ensure AltSchool reflects the wider community. If you’re interested in applying for tuition assistance, you will receive instructions after you submit your AltSchool online application.

*Please note that we require an evaluation from your child’s current teacher for an application to be considered complete.

Children must be five years old by December 1, 2018 to begin school in fall 2018. If your child is close to the cut-off date, we're happy to discuss a potential delayed enrollment.

Wait List: Qualified applicants whom AltSchool cannot immediately accept are placed on a wait list. Wait lists are active throughout the admissions period, and candidates are considered for acceptance if a space becomes available.

Mid-Year Transfers: AltSchool accepts mid-year transfers based on availability at each school location. Please indicate in your application if you are interested in a mid-year transfer.

Tuition and Tuition Assistance

AltSchool’s tuition covers the cost of the regular school day program, including healthy snacks, frequent field trips, and devices. Our after-school programming includes Extended Day and Enrichment offerings for additional fees. Learn more about our after-school offerings.
2018-19 annual tuition for lower school is $28,000 and middle school is $28,600.

Optional tuition assistance application: AltSchool is committed to diversity and inclusivity. Tuition assistance is one way we ensure AltSchool reflects the wider community. If you’re interested in applying for tuition assistance, you will receive instructions after you submit your AltSchool online application.
