What information does collect?

AltSchool may collect certain information when you interact with our site, including personally identifiable information (PII). More specifically, we collect: information gathered automatically about your visit to our site, including but not limited to your computer’s IP address, device and location identifiers, the content of cookies created by us or our partners, and information about your interaction with our site; information that you enter in our online application for enrollment, including your name, email address, and phone number, as well as your child's name, birth date, gender, and previous schooling information; and information that you provide by filling out other forms on our site, including name, contact information, and any other information that you choose to provide when you contact us through our site.

What does AltSchool do with the information collected?

San Francisco Bay Area: AltSchool offers both Lower School (kindergarten through 5th grade), and Middle School (6th through 8th grade). Programs vary by school location. Each school features mixed-age classrooms with 2-to-3 year age bands.

Automatically collected information: We gather this information to monitor and maintain our systems, measure traffic and usage trends, understand your needs, tailor our site according to your interests, and promote AltSchool.

Application information: We use this information internally to evaluate your child's application for admission to AltSchool, to understand the demographics and interests of applicants to AltSchool more generally, and, if your child enrolls in AltSchool, to establish our records about your child's enrollment.

Other information you provide: We use this information to improve our website and to communicate with you when you give us your permission—for example, to respond to your questions and comments, send you e-mails about AltSchool, or invite you to participate in surveys.

Does AltSchool share this information with others?

We will never sell or lease your PII to anyone. We will never provide your PII to third parties without your permission, except in the limited circumstances permitted by this Privacy Policy, or in the event that a third party purchases all or substantially all of our assets for the purpose of continuing AltSchool operations in substantially similar form, in which case personal data held by us about our users will be one of the transferred assets.

We have engaged Inspectlet to analyze the activities of visitors to this website, and Inspectlet’s authorized use of cookies and other tracking technologies may enable it to have access to PII of visitors to this website. Inspectlet's access to and use of PII is governed by Inspectlet’s Privacy Policy, which prohibits Inspectlet from using your PII for marketing or advertising purposes.

We share aggregated demographic information, not linked to any personal information that can identify you, with third-party analytics and advertising partners. We provide information about your visit to our site (but not PII) to third party remarketing providers such as Google AdWords for our marketing or promotional purposes. We have placed remarketing tags (similar in function to cookies) on our site, which help us connect with you again by allowing third-party vendors, including Google, to place ads and tailored messages on other sites that you visit later. These third-party vendors use cookies to serve ads based on your past visits to our site. We also may engage third-party service providers to work with us to administer and/or host our website. These third-party Providers have access to your PII only for the purpose of performing services on our behalf, and are subject to confidentiality agreements.

It is our policy to protect you from having your privacy violated through abuse of the legal systems, whether by individuals, entities or government, and to contest claims that we believe to be invalid under applicable law. However, it is also our policy to cooperate with valid legal orders to provide information. How does AltSchool use cookies?

A cookie is a small text file of information stored on your hard drive to help us improve your access to our site and identify repeat visitors. By using cookies, AltSchool can tailor its operations to your needs, likes and dislikes by gathering and remembering information about your preferences. Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually modify your browser setting to decline cookies if you prefer. Google uses cookies collected on our site for remarketing purposes as described above. You can opt out of Google’s use of cookies by visiting Google’s ad settings. Opting out of our or any third-party vendors’ use of cookies may prevent you from taking full advantage of our website.

We use traffic log cookies to identify which pages are being used and to aggregate statistics about site traffic patterns, which we may provide to third parties on an aggregate, anonymous basis. Does AltSchool allow visitors to restrict what information they provide?

You are not required to provide any PII to use our site, and we do not collect any unless you provide it. If you are the parent of a student enrolled in AltSchool, you may call us or email us at to find out what data we have about your child; to correct any data that we have about your child; or to ask any questions or express any concerns that you have about our use of your child's data. does not respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals or similar mechanisms.

Can you tell us about your security?

We take reasonable measures to protect the information that we collect from or about you (including your PII) from unauthorized access, use or disclosure. Please be aware, however, that no method of transmitting information over the Internet or storing information is completely secure. Accordingly, we cannot guarantee the absolute security of any information.

What about links to other websites?

Our site may contain links to enable you to visit other websites of interest easily. Once you have used these links to leave our site, you should note that we do not have any control over that other website. Therefore, we cannot be responsible for the protection and privacy of any information which you provide while visiting such websites, and such websites are not governed by this privacy statement.
